What do we mean by 100% Apostolic?
Maybe you have never heard about Apostolics. I'm thrilled you are here.
Apostolics, sometimes called Apostolic Pentecostal, are Christians that are intensely committed
to using only Biblical language and statements to identify and describe our beliefs.
Many Christians claim to be "Sola Scriptura" (from Scripture Alone) but then use
language, terms and ideas not found in the Bible to describe God, salvation
and other Christian beliefs.
Apostolics reject these extra-Biblical sources as binding on our beliefs.
We are sometimes described as Apostolic in our doctrine and Pentecostal in our experience.
Apostolics believe:
There is one and only one God.
God was manifest in the flesh in Jesus Christ, Who is the fullness of deity in a human body.
Jesus Christ died for our sins and overcame death in the resurrection.
We are called to be born of the water and the Spirit to be saved.
This includes faith, repentance, baptism in Jesus name, and receiving God's Spirit as a distinct, supernatural experience.
Believers are also called to live a Spirit-led life, connected to a true Bible-believing church, and as a part of the body of Christ, we must live differently than a sinful world to both overcome sin and to be an effective witness to a world that needs Jesus. As such, Apostolics attempt to teach and follow principles of practical holiness in our daily life.
Apostolics attempt to speak where the Bible speaks, and to remain silent where the Bible is silent.
So we do not look to Catholic Church ecumenical councils, or Protestant Confession of Faith statements
to identify or drive our beliefs. We are not perfect, but are happy to put the Bible first and last
in all matters of doctrine.
For example, the Apostle Peter said the following on the birthday of the church (on the Day of Pentecost):
Acts 2:38 NKJV
Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Many Christians and Churches do not follow this verse. They don't teach that Baptism is for the remission of sins. They don't do it in the name of Jesus. They don't believe that receiving the Holy Spirit is a distinct supernatural experience that is available today. They don't believe this verse applies to us today. That is amazing, and troubling, since Peter continues and adds the following:
Acts 2:39 NKJV
"For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
Clearly the application continues past the first century church.
Apostolics believe that this verse, and all of the New Testament, and all of the Bible, should apply to today and that all scripture is profitable for doctrine...
We are not against other Christians and groups, and we celebrate when any group chooses scripture above church traditions,
but Apostolics are committed to trusting Biblical language and terminology to define our beliefs.
So what does that mean at Acts238Games.com?
Our game content will focus mainly on Bible verses and direct Biblical content.
We will include, in a few game experiences, other inspirational content
and thoughts that we believe are worth adding, as well as some stuff just for fun!
In games on scripture memorization and verse building, you will simply see Bible verses in the translation you prefer and selected, and it will be strictly Biblical content.
In games and quizzes that cover theology, and in questions of theology, we will emphasize Biblical language and statements and call out differences between what the Bible states and the theology of different church groups.
We will also offer content that is Christian, but not necessarily from Apostolic authors, including inspirational quotes from Christian writers throughout history. Whatever content we add, will be 100% compatible with Biblical content and the Apostolic perspective. For example, there are lots of amazing thoughts and quotes in the Inspirational Quotes game. Those are NOT Bible verses, but we believe they add value to the Christian experience.
We want to include other games that are fun and clean, as puzzles or arcade games. No magic spells or potions, but we believe there is room for games about robots and monsters and heroes. As the British theologian and author, C. S. Lewis once remarked, "Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker."
We know we cannot make everyone happy, so our primary goal here is to please God, help others know God and be saved, and to have fun while we are doing it!
This site and these games are being built by Pastor Scott Lynn and his daughter, Meredith Lynn, as a way to make the Word of God more accessible for dedicated believers and curious visitors of any age.
Our family and church are also part of the Detroit Metro District of the UPCI and we are pastoring and building a growing church in South Lyon, Michigan. Visit our church website, FamilyApostolic.org, to learn more about our wonderful church and for more online Bible studies and tools.
More coming very soon!
